My Modeler Career

Because I could spend my first years of operation near a small airfield, some elation for aviation evolved. It seems that my baby carriage was placed a bit too much in the landing volte-face which passed our house. My first word must have been "Düder" (which is baby talk for airplane in swiss dialect). My uncle from my mother's side did the rest as a passionate modeler.

Mein erstes Modell

My first model was a free flight plane which was designed and built by my uncle. I was six at that time. When I had enough dexterity I was allowed to learn how to build airplane models. Like this I came by different free flight and control line models (see airplane graveyard). At the beginning of my apprenticeship as a mechanic I had the opportunity to sniff some RC air. An old Mutliplex Digitron radio control did service. Unfortunately I neglected airplane modeling so that I never really learnt how to fly with a radio control. Other hobbies, education, girl friend, later wife and children made me suspend model construction. When my son began to show some interest in aviation I began to retrieve the still existing models from the attic. I made ready to fly what seemed worth. After 20 years of pause I returned to modeling. In the mean time there is quite a number of models occupying my hangar, all of them radio controlled. Cause I'm always up to promising experiments I began to grapple with autogyros. The result you can find here. At the moment I'm designing and building a quadrocopter (see here).
